Dentsply Sirona in exocad: Astra EV, Ankylos, Xive, Atlantis

Dentsply Sirona is the largest implant brand in the DentalLibs catalog: nearly 200 items for exocad and RealGUIDE alone. And that is exactly the trap. A single label covers systems with different, incompatible connections. Finding the right Dentsply Sirona exocad library gets tricky because of the confusion between the Astra Tech EV, Ankylos, Xive lines and the Atlantis abutment platform.

Downloading the wrong geometry means ending up with an abutment or crown that will not seat on the analog. Let's break down how the brand's lines differ and how to select the right library for your case every time.

The brand name in the catalog tells you nothing about the connection. Go by the line (Astra EV, Ankylos, Xive), not by the word "Dentsply Sirona."

Dentsply Sirona implant lines: Astra Tech EV, Ankylos and Xive

Dentsply Sirona has three historic implant systems, and each has its own internal connection:

  • Astra Tech Implant System EV — the current flagship line with a conical connection and internal hex (indexing). You'll also see the TX designation here — that's the TiUltra/OsseoSpeed implant design.
  • Ankylos — a system with the deep conical TissueCare connection (CX platform). Its geometry is fundamentally different from EV.
  • Xive — a line with an internal hex (Xive S), also incompatible with EV and Ankylos.

A library labeled simply "Dentsply Sirona" without specifying the line is useless: first identify the patient's system, then look for the platform and height.

Astra Tech EV and TitaniumBase: connection, ASA sizes and heights

Astra Tech EV is the largest part of the Dentsply Sirona catalog. The main working component here is the TitaniumBase EV (a titanium base, also known as a Ti-Base), on which the custom superstructure is milled or printed.

EV libraries are further divided by the ASA base geometry — sizes S, M, L — and by gingival height, which the catalog marks as 1, 2, 3 and 4 mm. Indexing is a separate attribute: the standard version locks rotation, while the NI (non-indexed) marking is for edentulous restorations like bridges, where indexing is not needed.

For multi-unit work, use the MultiBase Abutment EV — a multi-unit base for screw-retained fixation. And for temporary crowns, the catalog has a separate TempAbutment EV.

Three parameters decide everything for Astra EV: ASA size (S/M/L), gingival height (1–4 mm) and indexed/NI. A mistake in any one and the fit won't match.

Ankylos and Xive: legacy systems that are still very much alive

Ankylos and Xive have been produced for decades, and many are placed in clinics, so libraries for them are still in demand. For Ankylos, the current platform is CX with a conical connection; the catalog includes, for example, the Ankylos BalanceBase angled multiunit — an angled multi-unit base for screw-retained restorations.

Xive runs on an internal hex (Xive S). Libraries for this line mostly come paired with pre-milled blanks and Atlantis abutments, covered below.

The main rule: never substitute an Ankylos library for Astra EV or vice versa. The abutments look similar, but the cone and indexing are different, and there is no compatibility.

Atlantis is not an implant, but a platform of abutments and blanks

A separate source of confusion is Atlantis. It is not an implant system but a line of custom abutments and pre-milled blanks that works on top of different connections. Hence the long library names like "Ankylos CX Ti AtlantisFLO" or "Astra Tech TX Ti AtlantisIO-FLO."

Let's decode the markings. AtlantisFLO and AtlantisIO-FLO are workflow variants for milling blanks. The material is designated as Ti (titanium) or CoCr (cobalt-chrome). An example of a ready blank is the Xive S Ti AtlantisFLO.

There are also cuttable Ti-Base versions and versions with angular correction (Ang Correct) for the Dentsply Astra interface. It's important to understand: Atlantis inherits the connection of the system it's tied to — that is, an Atlantis blank for Ankylos will not fit Astra EV.

  • Ti / CoCr — the blank material;
  • AtlantisFLO / AtlantisIO-FLO — the milling workflow variant;
  • Cuttable / Ang Correct — a cuttable base and angular correction for the Ti-Base.

How to download Ankylos and Astra EV libraries for exocad and exoplan

For planning and surgical guides, Dentsply Sirona geometry is also available in RealGUIDE — see Dentsply Sirona components for RealGUIDE, which cover Ankylos, Astra Tech and other brand lines.

To avoid a wrong choice, go in order:

  • Identify the implant system: Astra Tech EV, Ankylos CX or Xive S.
  • Confirm the platform and diameter — they are tied to the connection, not the brand.
  • For a restoration, choose the base type: TitaniumBase/Ti-Base, MultiBase or Atlantis pre-milled blank.
  • For Astra EV, set the ASA size (S/M/L), gingival height (1–4 mm) and indexed or NI.
  • Check the software: exocad DentalCAD for prosthetics, exoplan/RealGUIDE for guided surgery.

All the listed Dentsply Sirona libraries are in the DentalLibs catalog broken down by line, which removes most of the confusion at the search stage.

Frequently asked questions about Dentsply Sirona libraries

Where can I download an Ankylos library for exocad?

In the DentalLibs catalog under exocad implant. Search by the Ankylos CX line and the base type you need — BalanceBase, Atlantis or pre-milled blank; don't just grab "Dentsply Sirona" without the line.

Is an Astra Tech EV library compatible with Ankylos or Xive?

No. The three lines have different connections: a cone with hex on EV, a TissueCare cone on Ankylos and an internal hex on Xive. The libraries are not interchangeable.

What do ASA and NI mean in the TitaniumBase EV name?

ASA (S/M/L) is the size of the titanium base geometry, while NI (non-indexed) is the version without rotational indexing for bridge and edentulous restorations.

Is Atlantis a separate implant system?

No. Atlantis is a line of custom abutments and pre-milled blanks that works on top of a specific system's connection (Astra EV, Ankylos, Xive and other brands).
