Anthogyr Axiom exocad library: SA, DT and MDT explained
Anthogyr is a French implant manufacturer that joined Straumann Group in 2019. Its main system is Axiom. The DentalLibs catalog has 37 Anthogyr libraries: 22 for exocad, 14 for exoplan and one for RealGUIDE.
exoplan rarely causes trouble because its files are named after the implant lines. exocad is harder: the 22 libraries differ only in the last two or three letters, and search queries show technicians mixing them up. Below is what each part of the name means.
What SA, DT and MDT mean in Anthogyr libraries
These are the three Anthogyr scan body types used to capture implant position digitally:
- SA — Scan Adapter, a lab scan adapter;
- DT — Digital Transfer, for intraoral scans of single restorations;
- MDT — Metal Digital Transfer, for single and multi-unit work on Axiom BL, TL and Multi-Unit.
Hence the rule: the library suffix must match the scan body in the scan. If the model came in with a metal MDT transfer and you open the SA library, exocad calculates the implant position from the wrong geometry and the restoration seats off position.
Labside: X-Base, FlexiBase, PreFace and temporary parts
Labside is Anthogyr's program for labs that make custom prosthetics in-house. The second part of the library name is the Labside product:
- X-Base — a base for screw-retained zirconia restorations on Axiom implants;
- FlexiBase — a base for single and multi-unit screw-retained work on Axiom BL and TL;
- PreFace — a titanium premill blank for milling a custom abutment;
- Temp Abutment and Temp Monobloc — temporary components;
- HealFit SH — a scannable healing abutment.
Each product comes in three scan body versions, so X-Base appears three times in the catalog: X-Base SA, X-Base DT and X-Base MDT. Product first, then the suffix. Newer Anthogyr materials list X-Base in place of FlexiBase, but the catalog has libraries for both.
Axiom BL and TL: bone level vs tissue level
BL stands for Bone Level, an implant placed at bone level. TL is Tissue Level, an implant with its neck at soft tissue level. Axiom TL has two prosthetic platforms: N at 4.0 mm and R at 4.8 mm.
HealFit SH has two libraries: HealFit SH BL and HealFit SH TL. The other Labside products are not split by BL and TL in the catalog.
Anthogyr in exoplan and RealGUIDE
exoplan has 14 libraries. The core is AXIOM BL in REG, PX, X3 and 28 variants and AXIOM TL in REG, PX and X3, some of them also in FDA-labelled versions. Alongside the implants there are FirstDrill and Integral surgical kits, Mini Implant, a fixation library and sleeves.
For RealGUIDE there is one library: Anthogyr for RealGUIDE.
How to choose an Anthogyr library
Three questions, in order:
- which implant: Axiom BL or TL;
- what the restoration is built on: X-Base, FlexiBase, PreFace or a temporary part;
- which scan body produced the scan: SA, DT or MDT.
If you only work with models in exocad, you still need the DentalCAD libraries, because that is where the scan bodies are stored. All the Anthogyr files mentioned here are available in the DentalLibs catalog.
Frequently asked questions about Anthogyr libraries
Is Anthogyr owned by Straumann or Dentsply Sirona?
Straumann Group. Straumann bought a 30% stake in Anthogyr in 2016, and in 2019 the company became fully part of the group.
What is the difference between X-Base and FlexiBase?
Both are bases for screw-retained zirconia restorations. FlexiBase appears in earlier Anthogyr materials; newer ones list X-Base in its place. Choose the library for the base actually used in the case.
Which library do I use for Multi-Unit work?
Go by the MDT scan body. Anthogyr's metal digital transfer is designed for Multi-Unit work among other uses.
Do I need a separate library for HealFit SH?
To transfer the gingival profile, yes. Its library defines the abutment geometry; the profile is copied with a separate file.
