Straumann Bone Level implant sizes: diameters, NC/RC platforms and the right library
A search for “Straumann Bone Level sizes” usually hides one practical question: which library to install for a specific implant. Good news: the Bone Level size grid is simple, and there are only two prosthetic platforms.
Let's go through the sizes and translate them straight into CAD terms.
Diameters and platforms
The Bone Level line (and its tapered sibling BLT) comes in three endosteal diameters: 3.3 mm, 4.1 mm and 4.8 mm. Prosthetically, however, they split into just two CrossFit platforms:
NC (Narrow CrossFit) — for the 3.3 diameter only. RC (Regular CrossFit) — shared by 4.1 and 4.8. A 4.1 implant and a 4.8 implant take the very same components — a deliberate Straumann decision that simplifies stock and lab work.
Easy to memorize: narrow means NC, everything else is RC.
Lengths — and why CAD does not care
Typical Bone Level lengths run from 8 to 14 mm (short options exist in some lines). Length is a key parameter for the surgeon; for prosthetics and the CAD project it means nothing — the connection is identical on an implant of any length.
That is why an exocad library offers no “10 mm vs 12 mm” choice — and that is not a bug. What drives your project is the platform (NC/RC), the restoration type and the Ti-base gingival height.
Do not mix it up with the neighbours
Tissue Level is the Straumann classic with a polished neck: different labels (RN/WN — Regular/Wide Neck, 4.8 and 6.5 shoulder diameters) and a different connection, synOcta. Bone Level components do not fit there.
